Working With CAB Files

CAB files are Microsoft Cabinet Archives. In many scenario, you face cab files. Thankfully, there are tools which you can use to both extract and create CAB files.

If you are on Ubuntu/Linux Mint, first install cabextract and lcab.

sudo apt-get install cabextract lcab
Now you can easily extract a CAB file using the Terminal,
cabextract filename.cab
To create a CAB file, use,
lcab input files filename.cab
If you are on Windows, there is an old but free and working tool called cabpack. With cabpack, you can easily create and extract CAB files with a GUI. It is a lightweight portable application, so no need to install. It also runs on Linux under WINE.
