Pulse: Volume One(review)

iPad Apps - Pulse: Volume One
Pulse: Volume One is a unique music-based game for iPad. It offers an immersive multi-touch musical game with beautiful graphics. You’re supposed to tap notes as pulses radiate out from the center in concentric circles. The pulses match the rhythm of the song (of which a handful are included for now, in Volume One), and the placement of the notes are important too. Once you get the rhythm down and begin to understand the notes, you’ll be able to predict where you’ll have to tap next and so you’ll begin “playing” the song. When everything comes together and you “get” the whole thing, it’s a very rewarding feeling. But it can get pretty frustrating if you can’t keep up with the rhythm or notes.

As the game progresses you’ll find yourself playing with two hands and multiple fingers. It gets challenging pretty quickly, but it’s likely that more musically-inclined players will get the hang of it much quicker and get so much more joy out of it. The graphics go well with the game and the game mixes visual and aural components really well. Playing with headphones on really helps you appreciate the sounds and the connections much better in this iPad game. The colors and songs are well chosen in this volume, but there aren’t that many tunes to pick from just yet. This is an awesome, innovative, and promising game that combines beautiful visual elements with captivating sounds on iPad.
