How To Change Background In Nautilus

Nautilus is a great file manager for Gnome, and also the default. If you are bored seeing the same white background always, then don't worry. It is dead simple to change the background. There are many great textures to choose from or you can use your own images.
Nautilus is a great file manager for Gnome, and also the default. If you are bored seeing the same white background always, then don't worry. It is dead simple to change the background. There are many great textures to choose from or you can use your own images.

First, open a Nautilus window and click on the "Edit" menu. Then select "Backgrounds & Emblems".

Now you can either choose a preinstalled texture or add your own. To add a new image, click on "Add New Pattern". Then choose an image to add.

Now, to use the background, just drag & drop it in the Nautilus window.

Here we used a image as a background. Remember, if you don't want the same image to repeat and adding a large image, maxmizing the window while adding should work.

This way, you can also make Nautilus show a custom background like red when you open it as root. Just change the background while it is opened as root
