Now Opera Mini in Iphone

Opera Software is soon releasing the iPhone version of its famous browser Opera Mini. In Opera Mini blog, they announced that they will release Opera Mini for iPhone during 2010 WMC(World Mobile Congress).

Apple had allowed to make browsers for iPhone for some period. But the condition was it will use Apple's Webkit as its rendering engine, which is used by Safari. But Opera uses Presto as its rendering engine. Though Firefox is released for Android phones and symbian also under developement, it cannot release an iPhone version as it uses Gecko. So the question is, will Opera use Webkit in stead of its native Presto?

If Opera uses Presto, Opera Mini will not be available via Apple's Appstore. Then it can only be run in Jailbroken iPhones. And why Opera will release Opera Mini in stead of Opera Mobile for iPhone?

Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5 have similar UI and features. But still, Opera Mini is Java based and less powerful than Opera Mobile.

Then what's the reason behind releasing Opera Mini? Lets take a keen look. Opera Mini doesn't use any rendering engine to render web pages. Rather the page is first compressed via Opera Mini server, and then Opera Mini is able to display that light markup language. So it can be a reason that Opera will release Opera Mini for iPhone, not Opera Mobile. Opera Mini will be surely less powerful than the native browser, Apple's Safari. But it has many features and surely too faster than Safari due to its compression technology
